carbon neutral trips
We all have a responsibility to live trave in a way that keeps our planet safe from harm. We don’t have to be perfect, but we can do our best and commit to more sustainableand conscious choices, every step of the way.
All our road trips are carbon neutral.
This means that we compensate each time for the emissions each trip produces, by reducing CO2 emissions in other parts of the world.
Here is how:
Calculate your footprint
We have calculated the carbon footprint of each trip with the help of Sustainable Travel International, an expert climate change organization. This includes greenhouse gas emissions generated through driving, hotels stayed in and ferries used.
Offset the footprint
Based on this calculation we purchase carbon offsets to balance your carbon footprint. We make a financial contribution towards a diverse portfolio of verified climate projects such as forest protection and restoration, clean energy generation and conservation of precious ecosystems.
Give back
These verified projects reduce overall CO 2 and other greenhouse gases by removing existing CO 2 from the atmosphere or preventing future emissions. Alongside fighting climate change, these projects create a range of benefits for communities and ecosystems around the world.
We balance out the impact of your trip on the planet, while supporting initiatives that pave the way for a cleaner, greener future!

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of projects does your carbon offset programme support?
We support Sustainable Travel International’s portfolio of carbon reduction projects which includes a mix of third-party verified forestry, energy, and blue carbon projects around the world. All of the projects are carefully vetted to ensure they not only deliver emissions reductions, but also align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create added community and environmental benefits such as local jobs, improved hygiene, or endangered species protection. By conserving natural carbon sinks and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, these projects are laying the groundwork for a net zero future. Below you can find the types of projects we support:

Peru-Madre de diosThis project reduces deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon by improving forest management and promoting sustainable nut harvesting. This will help protect critical rainforest habitat and endangered species, while providing local employment and supporting indigenous livelihoods.
Clean & Efficient Energy
Energy projects decrease carbon generated from energy use. Clean energy projects fund renewable energy infrastructure, while efficiency projects support the application of new technologies or practices that lessen energy use. Here’s one example of this type of project:
USA - Big Smile Wind FarmThe Big Smile Wind Farm is located on more than 7,500 acres of agricultural and grazing land in Oklahoma. The wind turbines reduce reliance on fossil fuels by generating enough renewable energy to power over 45,000 homes. Operation of the wind farm supports local jobs and provides additional income stream for farmers.
Coastal Blue Carbon
he blue carbon projects protect important coastal ecosystems that store substantial amounts of carbon. Along with sequestering carbon, these ecosystems protect communities from harmful climate impacts and provide habitats for marine life. Here’s one example of this type of project:
Kenya - Blue ForestsThese companion projects are protecting and restoring the mangrove forests on Kenya’s southern coast. By conserving these valuable blue carbon ecosystems and creating livelihood opportunities, the projects are fostering marine health and improving the resilience of coastal communities.
Who evaluates the exact carbon footprint of each trip?
We have partnered with Sustainable Travel International, one of the most experienced and widely respected expertss in climate change and responsible travel. This organization has calculated the carbon footprint of each of our road trips, using high-end estimates to make sure we cover the activities that represent our main emission sources. We look at the duration of our trips and round up to a full week, over-estimating when calculating the expected emissions. So, for any trip less than a week, we assume emissions for a seven-day trip, for a 10-day trip we assume emissions for a 14-day trip and so forth
How do I know that the money for carbon offsetting is well used and not wasted?
-
All of the projects we invest in are independently verified by reputable standards, such as those listed below. These standards ensure emissions reductions are achieved by evaluating criteria such as additionality, permanence, and leakage.
To make sure you have proof that your trip is fully carbon neutral, we provide you with a certificate for each trip you book
Every year we publish an annual report that states exactly how many metric tons of carbon we eliminated together and much money we have contributed to carbon offsets.
Why aren’t there any carbon offset projects in Greece?
Climate change is global and affects the whole planet. It doesn’t really matter in which part of the world the offset takes place as the effects are present everywhere. In addition, there aren’t currently any projects in Greece that are already certified under the rigorous standards for carbon offsets, so we have made the choice to invest in an international portfolio of projects.
Why don’t you offer electric cars for your road trips?
Electric car charging stations are still very limited in Greece so it’s impossible to navigate the country with an electric car alone. But the country is evolving in this respect and as soon as it’s possible to use electric cars we will make it a default option in all our road trips.
